For this project, I had to create an animated video of any Grimm fairytale of my liking and make it unique. In my sketches, I knew that my target audience was going to be little kids so that's why I decided to go with the story of the wolf and the fox. For this, I wanted to make all of my illustrations stick puppets while the background was a digital drawing made by me with a paper texture to make it seem like is a page from a book. My goal was to create an animated video of a story that would normally be told to a group of kids in a library. Something that I enjoyed from this project was the amount of freedom I had to tell my story the way I wanted it to while also being an opportunity to improve my skills in motion design.
My Grimm Fairytale
This is my interpretation of the original story:
Once in a deep, magical forest, a clever fox and a hungry wolf lived together. The wolf was big but lazy, always wanting the fox to do all the work.
One day, as they walked through the woods, the wolf growled, "Fox, get me food, or I'll eat you!" The fox, being smart, suggested getting young sheep. The wolf liked the idea and ate one sheep. But wanting more, he tried to get another and got caught by the farmer and nearly killed.
When the wolf came back to the fox he asked him "Why are you so greedy?”, but the wolf didn't listen. The next day, the wolf said the same thing “Fox get me food or I will eat you up”. The fox gave the idea to steal a couple of pies from the farmer’s house, but the wolf wanted more. He caused a big mess and got in trouble with the farmer again.
The fox warned, "Don't be so greedy!" Still, the wolf insisted on more food. This time, the fox tricked the wolf into a cellar with salted meat. The fox stayed alert and made a hole to escape, and warned the wolf to not eat so much.
"Why are you so worried?" asked the wolf. The fox, being clever, pretended to watch out for danger. But the wolf ate too much, and when the farmer came, the fox escaped through the hole, leaving the wolf stuck.
The greedy wolf faced trouble because he didn't listen. The fox, free from the greedy friend, learned that being clever is better than being greedy.
The overall moral of the book is to never be greedy, and always listen to the advice people give you.
