Project Prompt
For this project, I had to create four completely different posters from my chosen quote. This required me to find different ways to make imagery that represented the quote in some way while also ensuring that people get my vision.
My quote was “Accidents often produce the best solutions” by Jennifer Morla. This quote gave me the chance to explore physical and digital media in Photoshop and Illustrator. My vision with every poster was to showcase how things you shouldn’t do can often create very successful outcomes.
Research
The quote “Accidents often produce the best solutions” suggests that unexpected or unintended events can sometimes lead to the best outcomes. The quote encourages viewing accidents positively, highlighting the innovation potential. It suggests that rather than fearing accidents, we should embrace them as opportunities for growth and improvement.
Who was Jennifer Morla?
Throughout her career, graphic designer Jennifer Morla has demonstrated a unique talent for converting traditional visual iconography into eclectic contemporary designs, in which imagery, type, and abstract forms are layered atop one another in various ways.
Why did I choose this?
I like this quote because it reminds me how many things that should be wrong and not work sometimes can create the best outcomes. Most of the time I tend to follow the rules when what I should be doing is having fun and trying every kind of crazy idea.

Experiments
Here you can find some of the experiments I tried while coming up with ideas and you can also find some of the textures I used for the final posters.

Typographic Choice
Agenda
The typeface “Agenda” is known for its clean and modern design, characterized by straight lines and balanced proportions. When applied to the word “solution,” it can convey senses of clarity, clear efficiency, and forward-thinking, which are often associated with the concept of finding solutions. Additionally, the typeface’s simplicity ensures that the focus remains on the word itself, emphasizing its importance in the problem-solving context.
SOLUTION 1 (TYPE ONLY)

The concept behind this poster lies in visually representing the idea that most accidents will often produce the best-looking outcomes. The big intentional distortion on the first word serves to emphasize the disruptive and the very unconventional nature of accidents, it contrasts sharply with the normal type in the rest of the quote. My poster design underscores the message that unexpected events, despite their wierd disruptive nature, can lead to the best result.
Solution 1 (Experimentations)
For this poster, I wanted to distort my type in Photoshop to make it seem like it was a mistake that made it look so much better. That meant that I had to play with a lot of different versions till I found the one I liked the most, there are a lot of different versions of the posters ranging from very simple to crazy ones.

SOLUTION 2 (TYPE AND IMAGE)

The goal of this poster is to visually represent the idea that unexpected or unintended outcomes can lead to innovative solutions. The distorted letter A serves as a metaphor for the unpredictable and unconventional nature of accidents. It reflects the bad chaos that accidents can bring, while also hinting at the potential for transformation and creativity that arises from such situations.
Solution 2 (Experimentations)
For this poster, I wanted to create a distorted object as the base of the background to emphasize my vision. I decided to grab the first letter of the quote which was the letter A and distorted so much to the point that it still resembles the letter but barely. I did a lot of experiments with the design which means that I created a lot of different versions of the same poster but all of them had the same idea of using a distorted object in the background.

SOLUTION 3 (TRADITIONAL+DIGITAL)

The distorted eye symbolizes the unexpected or accidental nature of innovation. The roots and leaves sprouting from the big eye illustrate the transformative power of these accidental insights, akin to how our mistakes can lead to the growth of new ideas and solutions. I made a drawing of a distorted eye, then later scanned it and exported it to Photoshop. The reason I made this poster was to communicate the message that accidents or unexpected events often serve as catalysts for creative solutions and new ideas.

Drawing of the distorted eye made entirely with colored pencils
Solution 3 (Experimentations)
For this poster, I decided to draw with colored pencils a realistic distorted eye that forms roots with leaves. The original idea was to have the eye in the poster with some type but after many crits from my peers, they suggested the idea of having roots coming out of the eye so it shows that the mistake is creating a solution. Most of these alternative versions are just the eye with some type which shows my original idea.

SOLUTION 4 (NO LIMITATIONS)

My vision behind this poster is to symbolize the transformative power of unexpected events. The shattered glass represents a moment of chaos evoking feelings of unpredictability and a sense of uncertainty. However, inside the broken fragments lies the big potential for our innovation and creativity. Just as accidents can shatter our expectations and plans, they can also spark new ideas and solutions. I created my poster to encourage people to embrace accidents and setbacks as sources of inspiration and growth, highlighting the potential for positive outcomes even in the face of adversity and chaos.
Solution 4 (Experimentations)
Fun fact this poster was created by accident, I was making the second poster and I started putting random textures into my poster till I got the shattered glass one that was everything I was looking for. This poster was the most fun one to work on and I spent a lot of time making it as strong as it can be. This is my favorite poster and I think this is one of the strongest poster designs I have ever made.
